Hi Jeff,

I too was interested by this article, but I wonder if you are putting too much credibility into the NYT's legendary skills on reporting about religion in middle America. Shouldn't your intro say... "Some Christians are regularly..." New Life Church is hardly typical and if one goes by the numbers Mega Church-goers are still in the minority among all church goers. As typical for the NYT there is no sense of what are the actualy norms in American religious practice. All that said I take their point and wonder if I am even guilty of this myself.

Yes, perhaps -- the NYTimes is infamous for their bogus trends -- Jack Schafer has had a running bit on this over at Slate http://www.slate.com/id/2133550/ -- so I too am wary of "trends" unsupported except by anecdote and vague generalization. I take the story more or less at face value because it seems to me to be exactly the sort of thing I've often seen in myself and acquaintances... So, a trend I don't demand as much evidence for because it rings true to me...
